🕋 About Mecca (Makkah)
The Holiest City in Islam
Mecca, or Makkah al-Mukarramah, is the spiritual heart of the Islamic world and the holiest city in Islam. Located in western Saudi Arabia, it is the birthplace of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and the site of the Kaaba, the sacred cube-shaped structure housed within Masjid al-Haram (The Grand Mosque).
Every year, millions of Muslims from around the world travel to Mecca to perform the Hajj pilgrimage, one of the Five Pillars of Islam, which is required once in a lifetime for all able Muslims. Mecca is also visited year-round for Umrah, a non-mandatory but highly recommended pilgrimage.
